Students who already have Ware Lab access must complete two additional steps before they can begin using the Welding Shop.
- Complete and pass BSE 3494-Advanced Welding Technology with a B+ or better. This course is for Ware Lab students only so you are not able to sign up for this through the normal course request process. To enroll in BSE 3494, students must be recommended by their faculty advisor and team leader(s). The lab manager with then make selections from each team based on the number of spaces available. The course is a one credit, 3 hour class that takes place one day a week and is offered in the fall and spring. Selected students will be force-added to the class on the first day of each semester. IF, AT THIS TIME, STUDENTS HAVE TIME CONFLICTS WITH THE CLASS THEY WILL BE DROPPED AND THE SEAT WILL GO UNFILLED!
- After completing BSE 3494, the next step is to pass the Ware Lab Welding Shop On-Line Safety Quiz located on Scholar with an 85% or better.
Once all requirements are complete, see Dewey Spangler in Ware Lab 103 or Doug Harold in Ware Lab 101A to receive your welding shop certification card and to have your Hokie Passport updated allowing access to the welding shop. YOU MUST HAVE this card on your person while working in the weld shop!
