Only those students who have been accepted into Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering will be considered for admission to this program. In order to attend STEP, you must officially accept and plan to enroll in the College of Engineering. Many instructors in the STEP program will require homework assignments.
If you have any questions, please email STEP.
The cost to participate in STEP '13 is $1,750. This fee covers all expenses (i.e., housing, meals, voice mail, etc.) except transportation to and from Virginia Tech and personal expenses, such as laundry and entertainment.
Financial assistance is available and based on financial need. To qualify for financial assistance for STEP, a FAFSA form must be submitted to Virginia Tech's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. No refunds will be given for the program. If you have any questions, please email STEP.
You will be housed in a Virginia Tech residence hall (men and women on separate floors) with a roommate. You will also have access to campus facilities, including the use of the athletic and student union centers.
Once you are accepted into STEP, you need to purchase your computer immediately. It takes 2-3 weeks for delivery, so if you order right away, you will have it in time for the program. If you have financial issues or concerns, please email STEP. College of Engineering computer requirements are available at https://www.eng.vt.edu/it/requirement.
If you complete the STEP '13 program with an overall grade point average of 4.0 for all classes taken (mathematics, chemistry, chemistry laboratory, and introduction to engineering) and you pass the Calculus Diagnostic Test given at the end of the program with a grade of B or better, you will receive a book scholarship.
