Virginia Tech Student Organizations

2006 Engineering Technology Showcase

On March 30, 2006, the Engineering Technology Showcase took place at Owen's Dining Hall and with over 700 attendees, the Showcase turned out to be a huge success. At the event, students were able to learn about new technologies that have potential to directly improve their overall learning experience. Students could speak one-on-one with various vendors and be educated in the efforts of companies to improve education.  Each company demonstrated how their latest innovations actually worked.

Technology Presentations were also held throughout the day where faculty members spoke about a few of the newest technologies including Tablet PCs, Wearable Computing, and Podcasting. Thirteen vendors took part and each had their latest innovations available for students to get a hands-on feel of how they work.  Each product displayed was in a way designed to improve the overall learning experience in a university setting. Along with the vendor's, student design projects were featuring their latest creations.

The Showcase had a huge response with everyone participating.  Over 99% of the people attending felt that it was worthwhile and 96% are planning to attend next year.  Also, ten out of the twelve vendors reported that they would like to participate again next year with the other two vendors being undecided.

Even though the first Engineering Technology Showcase was a success, the Student Technology Council is planning to make next years Showcase bigger and better.
