David Christian received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with an option in nuclear science and engineering in 1976. Upon graduation Mr. Christian joined Virginia Power as an engineer. In 1979, he was promoted to engineering supervisor, which was followed by several other promotions to positions that included superintendent-operations in 1983. He returned to the nuclear division in 1989 as assistant station manager at Surry Power Station, and was named station manager in 1994. On July 1, 1998, he was named vice president-nuclear operations.
He joined Dominion Generation, a generating unit of Dominion Resources, upon its formation on May 1, 1999. Mr. Christian was named senior vice president and chief nuclear officer in May 2000, and president and chief nuclear officer-Dominion Nuclear in October 2007. He assumed his current post, the CEO at Dominion Generation, based in Richmond June 1, 2009.
