Dan Sable, a registered professional engineer, is the founder, president, and CEO of VPT, Inc., located in Blacksburg, Va. In 1993 Dr. Sable co-founded VPT (formally Virginia Power Technologies) and since, the company has become a global leader in providing power conversion solutions for use in avionics, military, and space applications. VPT offers high reliability DC-DC converters, EMI filters, and custom power electronic products for critical applications.
Dr. Sable began his professional career in 1978 with RCA Astro-Electronics in Hightstown, N.J. where he worked until 1987 on the design of various satellite electrical systems including: RADAR sensors, telemetry systems, attitude control electronics, reaction wheel motor drives, and power systems. He was also an assistant professor of electrical engineering technology at Trenton College of New Jersey.
In 1980 Dr. Sable received his bachelors in electrical engineering from MIT. He received his masters in 1985 and doctorate in 1991, also in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech. His doctoral studies focused on spacecraft power electronic systems.
After receiving his PhD, Dr. Sable served as a research scientist within the Center for Power Electronic Systems (CPES) laboratory at Virginia Tech.
He has also served as the chairman of the Virginia Tech Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Industrial Advisory Board where he was instrumental in the founding of Space @ VT.
