Barry Fletcher is a 1979 graduate of Virginia Tech in electrical engineering and completed nuclear engineering qualifications through the U.S Navy-Naval Reactors program in 1981.
Mr. Fletcher joined Newport News in 1979 as an associate engineer and has held a number of positions during his career including electrical engineer, nuclear test engineer, chief nuclear test engineer, and manager of nuclear test engineering. He most recently served as director of nuclear engineering.
Currently, Mr. Fletcher is vice president of the nuclear propulsion division at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, in Newport News, Va. Appointed to this position in 2010, he is responsible for nuclear propulsion engineering and test, some areas of nuclear production and engineering, and production at the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, a research and development facility in upstate New York that supports the U.S. Navy’s nuclear propulsion program.
Mr. Fletcher is a member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, a member of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Engineering Advisory Board, and a member of the Virginia Higher Education Consortium on Nuclear Energy.
Mr. Fletcher is married to Anita and they have a daughter Casey.
