Virginia Tech College of Engineering
At the fifteenth annual Virginia Tech College of Engineering faculty reception, awards were presented to engineering professors for teaching innovation, research, service, and outreach for 2012. Five outstanding new assistant professors were also recognized.
The Dean’s Awards for Teaching Excellence were presented to: Yong Woo Lee of the school of biomedical engineering and sciences; Stephen Martin of chemical engineering; and Patrick Schaumont of electrical and computer engineering.
The Dean’s Awards for Research Excellence were presented to: Doug Bowman of computer science; Chema de la Garza of civil and environmental engineering; Srinath Ekkad of mechanical engineering; Michael Karmis of mining and minerals engineering; and Danesh Tafti of mechanical engineering.
Receiving the Dean’s Awards for Service Excellence were: Kimberly Ellis of industrial and systems engineering; Robert Hendricks of materials science and engineering; Ed Nelson of engineering administration; and Corina Sandu of computer science.
Receiving the Outstanding New Assistant Professor Awards were: Bahareh Behkam of mechanical engineering; Holly Matusovich of engineering education; Ryan Senger of biological systems engineering; Jules White of electrical and computer engineering; and Danfeng Yao of computer science.
The College of Engineering Faculty Fellows, an award that carries an annual $5000 account for the next three fiscal years to support his or her research, were presented to: Chang Lu of chemical engineering; Kathy Lu of materials science and engineering; Mike Madigan of engineering science and mechanics; T.M. Murali of computer science; Mark Paul of mechanical engineering, and Shane Ross of engineering science and mechanics.
The Dean also presented the W. S. ”Pete” White Award in Engineering Education to Mark Pierson of mechanical engineering.
The College Award for Outreach Excellence went to Gerald Luttrell of mining and minerals engineering.
The four Certificates of Teaching Excellence were also presented to: Roger Changer of engineering science and mechanics; Russell Green of civil and environmental engineering; Jaime De La Ree Lopez of electrical and computer engineering; and Shane Ross of engineering science and mechanics.
