Virginia Tech College of Engineering
The Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech will host the Inaugural NUCOR Distinguished Lecture featuring structural engineer Leslie Robertson on Wednesday, 4 May at 4 p.m.
The lecture will be held in the Alumni Assembly Hall and a reception will follow in Latham Ballroom B at The Skelton Conference Center at the Inn at Virginia Tech.
Robertson’s lecture, “The Changing Role of the Structural Engineer” will address how and why the structural engineer is able to contribute to aesthetics and function.
Robertson is best known as the structural engineer for the World Trade Center Twin Towers. He is credited with having designed three of the tallest eight buildings in the world.
Roberson’s lecture will be visual and is intended for both an engineering and non-engineering audience.
The NUCOR Corporation, the largest producer of steel in the U.S., is supporting this lecture series. NUCOR has been a long-term research sponsor of the CEE department, and more recently began working with the department on broader endeavors. In addition to the lecture series, NUCOR has provided significant financial support for the past two years to the ASCE Student Chapter Steel Bridge Team.
