Frequently Asked Questions

Women's Preview Weekend
April 14 - 15, 2012

If you have additional questions, call Susan Arnold-Christian at (540) 231-3973.

How can my family get in touch with me during the weekend in case of an emergency?

If your family needs to contact you in case of an emergency, they may call your host's room or Susan Arnold-Christian on her cell at (785) 410-4661.

Where will guests stay?

Preview Weekend guests will stay on campus, in the room of a female undergraduate engineering student. Guests will most likely be sleeping on the floor or a futon so they should bring a sleeping bag, blanket, pillow, etc.

When guests stay on campus, they are guests of the university and required to abide by the rules of the university, including but not limited to: observation of residence hall quiet hours; no possession/consumption of alcohol under the age of 21; no smoking under the age of 18; no possession/consumption of illegal drugs. Also, guests are reminded that a student has been gracious enough to open her room so please be considerate of her personal property as well as the property of her roommate.

The program staff reserves the right to dismiss from the program any student who fails to follow the program policies or fails to display appropriate behavior.

How will guests and hosts meet?

Hosts will send an email or call their guest to introduce themselves by April 7, 2011 to arrange meeting and discuss details of your visit.

What type of clothing should I wear?

Dress for the Preview will be casual. Spring weather in Blacksburg is very unpredictable. It could be snowing or 60 degrees -- please check the Weather Channel or weather.com before you leave home. You will be doing a lot of walking throughout the program, so please be sure to bring comfortable shoes. Don't forget to bring an umbrella or other rain gear, as the program will go on, rain or shine.

Please be sure to bring all personal hygiene items, including deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrush, robe, shower shoes, soap, towel, and anything else you may need. Don't forget your sleeping bag or blankets since you may be sleeping on the floor (or a futon).

What about parking on campus (parking permits)?

All cars parked on campus must display a University parking permit. Check in at the Visitors' Information Center upon arrival to campus to obtain a visitor's parking permit. Visitor's permits must be displayed Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Please refer to Directions.

Inclement Weather

In case of a winter storm, we will contact all participants by phone. If you have questions about the conditions, please contact (540) 231-3973. We will make every effort to reschedule the weekend if cancelled.
