In recognition of her efforts, the university awarded her the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Engineering. In August 2006, Wagner also was appointed to a four-year term on Virginia Tech's Board of Visitors.
An avid boater who competitively races sailboats on the Chesapeake Bay, Wagner volunteers at the YMCA where she coaches children's soccer and swim teams.
