Blacksburg, VA , October 03, 2009

The College of Engineering Graduate Student Council is sponsoring the 11th Annual Professional Development Seminar Nov. 7.

The seminar will feature speakers from various backgrounds. Members of the College of Engineering faculty, professionals working in industry, and researchers employed at national labs will be among the presenters. These speakers will present career experiences and tips to prepare graduate students for their own professional careers.

The organizers from the council hope that the real-world experience of the speakers will provide the audience with an intimate understanding of the issues and challenges facing professionals every day. This seminar aims to enhance a graduate student's education by providing experiences that are not typically covered in an engineering curriculum. Past topics have included the following: business and dining etiquette, leadership, conflict resolution, working as a manager, starting an academic career, building a research career, entrepreneurship, and making a larger impact on the community.

The event will be held at the Holiday Inn of Blacksburg from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Reserve your seat by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. More information and the registration form are available at http://www.gsc.eng.vt.edu/PDS.html. Register by submitting the registration form and a $20 deposit (if you attend your deposit will be returned to you at check-in) to Barbara Crawford in 3046 Torgersen Hall.
