Engineering Faculty Receive Dean’s Awards for Excellence

At the sixteenth annual Virginia Tech College of Engineering faculty reception, awards were presented to engineering professors for teaching innovation, research, service, and outreach for 2013.  Two outstanding new assistant professors were also recognized. Certificates of teaching excellence were also awarded.

The Dean’s Awards for Teaching Excellence were presented to:  Clinton Dancey of mechanical engineering and Aaron Goldstein of chemical engineering.

The Dean’s Awards for Research Excellence were presented to: John G. Casali of industrial and systems engineering; Thomas Hou of electrical and computer engineering, Brian Lattimer of mechanical engineering, Thurmon Lockhart of industrial and systems engineering, and Wing Ng of mechanical engineering.

Receiving the Dean’s Awards for Service Excellence were: Mary Kasarda of mechanical engineering, Don Taylor of industrial and systems engineering, and Joe Tront of electrical and computer engineering.

Receiving the Outstanding New Assistant Professor Awards were: Matthew Eatherton of civil and environmental engineering and Chao Wang of electrical and computer engineering.

The College of Engineering Faculty Fellows, an award that carries an annual $5000 account for the next three fiscal years to support his or her research, were presented to: Ali Butt of computer science, Warren Hardy of mechanical engineering, Aditya Johri of engineering education, Patrick Schaumont of electrical and computer engineering, John Taylor of civil and environmental engineering, and Pamela VandeVord of biomedical engineering.

The Dean also presented the W. S. ”Pete” White Award in Engineering Education to Kathleen Meehan of electrical and computer engineering.

The College Awards for Outreach Excellence went to Libby Bradford of computer science and Alexander Leonessa of mechanical engineering.

The four Certificates of Teaching Excellence were presented to: Francine Battaglia of mechanical engineering, Jerry Luttrell of mining and  minerals engineering, Vickie Mouras of civil and environmental engineering, and Craig Woolsey of aerospace and ocean engineering.
