Delta Airport Consultants, headquartered in Richmond, Va., was recognized as the 2010 Best Civil Engineering Firm to Work For by CE News magazine. The company’s founder, and current president as well as several other firm leaders are Virginia Tech alumni and supporters of the University.
Key Virginia Tech alumni and their degrees include:Edward L. Beale, professional engineer (PE), firm founder, a bachelor’s (1965) and a master’s degree (1967) in civil engineering (CE); Charles D. Lamb, PE, president, a master’s degree (1981) in CE;Kenneth W. Brammer, PE, vice president, a bachelor’s (1977) and a master’s degree (1981) in industrial engineering, and Courtney A. Beamon, PE, vice president and chief financial officer, a bachelor’s (1995) and a master’s degree (1996). Beamon also currently serves on the College of Engineering Advisory Board.
Delta has placed well in past years, but reaching #1 is an honor for the airport consulting firm, Beamon said.
To develop the rankings, the judges look at areas such as opportunities for challenge and growth, a collaborative environment, compensation, benefits, employee recognition initiatives, recruiting/retention efforts, and professional development programs.
Just as in 2009, Delta was highlighted as being particularly strong in professional development. As Lamb pointed out, “We recognize that our employees are our primary key to success and we promote professional development of all individuals.”
One of the judges commented, “It is striking that so many of Delta Airport Consultants’ employees cite ‘excellent customer service’ as a hallmark of what makes a firm one of the ‘best’ to work for, as opposed to more conventional references to employee benefits.”
Delta Airport Consultants is a consulting firm that provides airport engineering, planning and architectural services to airport clients throughout the United States. The 80-person firm is headquartered in Richmond, Va., and has seven additional offices throughout the country.
