Join us to celebrate our accomplishents!
The Department of Engineering Education invites everyone to attend our Sustainability Design Showcase. The projects on display in this design competition represent the best of the 300+ freshman design projects this year. Students (1300+) have been working with their design teams to investigate, design, develop and promote their choice of a renewable energy source—all on a budget of $20! Energy sources explored include Wind, Biomass, Solar, Hydropower and Geothermal. A panel of judges will adjudicate the student projects to choose the top three designs. Come and see what great work our first year engineering students have to offer!
The Design Problem
To develop a “Promotional Innovation” that publicizes awareness of a renewable energy source...
Assignment Challenge
Successful completion of this project should demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of sustainability to the design of a product, system or process, to apply the design process to solve an engineering problem as part of a team, and to effectively describe the team’s product and convey the team’s challenges, solutions and reasoning both orally and in writing.
What is sustainability?
“Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet human needs and aspirations.” - World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), 1987
