The Washington Division of United Research Services (URS) is sponsoring a bike building competition on the Virginia Tech campus on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Torgersen 1100.
Completed bicycles will be given to the Boys and Girls Club of America.
Working with URS is Virginia Tech's Engineering Leadership Network, supported philanthropically by William McAllister, an engineering science and mechanics (ESM) alumnus. The network seeks to encourage a broader perspective of the technical professional of engineering as a leader in society.
The network's pilot class of 2007 includes 10 undergraduates from five departments: ESM, industrial and systems engineering (ISE), computer science, mining an minerals engineering, and aerospace and ocean engineering. The Class of 2008 includes nine students from ESM, ISE, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and civil and environmental engineering.
URS, Washington Division considers Virginia Tech one of its key universities for recruitment, research and philanthropic support. Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, with more than $3 billion in annual revenue, the company has approximately 25,000 people at work around the world providing solutions in power, environmental management, defense, oil and gas processing, mining, industrial facilities, transportation, and water resources.
