How to recover previous versions of server files

Mac:

Unfortunately, there is no way at this time to restore files from a Mac.

  1. Please submit a helpdesk ticket immediately.
  2. Include the server share name (ex: department$) and all of the file/folder names that are missing.

Windows - Option 1:

Recovering a single file to a previous version.

  1. Select the file that you would like to recover.
  2. Right click the file.
  3. Left click "Properties".
  4. Go to the "Previous Versions" tab.
  5. Here you can select the version you would like and view it or save it to a different location.
  6. We are going to select the "restore" option.
  7. Click "Yes" on the previous versions message box.
  8. You should recieve a message that states "The file has been successfully restored to the previous version.
  9. Click Ok.
  10. Click Ok on the properties window.
  11. Done. Just open the file and make sure that it worked.
  12. Please note that this can also be done with entire folders.

Windows - Option 2:

Recovering missing files from a previous version.

  1. Select the folder where the file(s) should be located.
  2. Right click the folder.
  3. Left click "Properties".
  4. Go to the "Previous Versions" tab.
  5. Select the time that you would like to recover (this is usually the most recent time).
    • If the file is missing, close the window and repeat this step with the next time.
  6. A new explorer window will appear.
  7. Click the "Open" button.
  8. Select the file(s) or folder(s) that you are missing.
  9. Go to "Edit >> Copy" in the menu bar.
  10. Go to the original explorer window (where you right clicked in step 2).
  11. Open (double click) the folder that is missing the file(s) or folder(s)
  12. Go to "Edit >> Paste" in the menu bar.
  13. The file(s) or folder(s) should have appeared.
  14. Open the file(s) to make sure that it worked.
  15. Close the previous version folder.
  16. Done.

Windows - Option 3:

Submit a helpdesk ticket.

  1. If you are having problems with this, then please submit a helpdesk ticket immediately.
  2. Include the server share name (ex: department$) and all of the file/folder names that are missing.
