Unable to access intradevelopment links

Does the link start with "\\128.173.196.105\intradevelopment"?

  • Summary: We must ensure that we can connect to the server.

Does the link start with "\\file\intradevelopment\..."?

  • See Solution 2.
  • Summary: We must change "file" to "128.173.196.105" and then open it.
  • When all else fails, create a helpdesk ticket.

Solution 1:

Using Windows:

  1. Open "My Computer"
  2. Double click the "intradevelopment" share.
    1. If "intradevelopment" is not listed, close the "My Computer" window.
    2. Right click "My Computer"
    3. Click "Map Network Drive..."
    4. Select the drive letter you prefer.
    5. For folder, type "\\128.173.196.105\intradevelopment"
    6. Ensure that "Reconnect at logon" is checked.
    7. Click "Connect using a different user name."
    8. Enter your username and password.
    9. Click "Finish"
  3. Enter your username and password if it asks.
  4. If the files and folders appear, then try the link again.

Using a Mac:

  1. Double click the "intradevelopment" share.
    1. If "intradevelopment" is not listed.
    2. Click "Go >> Connect to Server..."
    3. For Server Address, type "smb://128.173.196.105/intradevelopment"
    4. Click "Connect"
  2. Enter your username and password if it asks.
  3. If the files and folders appear, then try the link again.

Solution 2:

Using Windows:

  1. Highlight the link starting with "\\file" and ending with the file name. (without the quotes)
  2. Click "Edit >> Copy" in the menu bar.
  3. Open "My Computer"
  4. Highlight "My Computer" in the Address bar.
  5. Click "Edit >> Paste" in the menu bar.
  6. Replace the word "file" with "128.173.196.105"
  7. Ensure that the path now says "\\128.173.196.105\intradevelopment\somedirectory\somefile.pdf" (without the quotes)
  8. Press "Enter" on the keyboard.
  9. The file should open. If it does not, then the file specified does not exist.

Using a Mac:

  1. Unfortunately, the only way to find the file is by manually going through the folder structure.
