As advances in technology shrink the world and circumvent physical distances, it is more important than ever that we understand other cultures and work to create mutually-beneficial relationships around the world.
Nationally, there is a shift towards viewing work with our international partners as part of a larger global context. Researchers are looking to solve problems that impact many nations while employers are seeking talent that can work for an organization with locations worldwide.
Recently the Education Abroad office changed its name to the Global Education Office to reflect this movement, and it is from this perspective that COE has changed its name from the Office of International Programs to the Office of Global Engineering Engagement and Research. This is an exciting time to work with our colleagues from around the world on a variety of projects and our new name will provide the flexibility to accommodate these new directions for the office.
The College of Engineering at Virginia Tech works with students, faculty, and industries to create innovative partnerships designed to increase global awareness and improve business and cultural relations. The Office of Global Engineering Engagement and Research serves as a resource for international opportunities for students, faculty, industries and alumni.
