VT Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurial Experience

Washington Entrepreneurs' Summer Semester (WESS)

The WESS is Virginia Tech's new interdisciplinary undergraduate entrepreneurial experience offered in the National Capital Region at the Virginia Tech Research Center - Arlington (VTRC-A).

WESS participants experience entrepreneurship through:

  • Participation in an entrepreneurial internship (e.g. venture capital firms, current start-ups, or corporations exploring new customer bases and products)
  • Instruction centered on core entrepreneurial concepts (e.g. intellectual property and communication skills)
  • Teaching and mentoring from experienced entrepreneurs and educators

Program Highlights:

  • Study, work, and live in the National Capital Region.
  • Experience entrepreneurship with students from multiple disciplines.
  • VT rising juniors and seniors earn elective credit toward their degree.
  • Possible internships include companies such as:
    • Venture Capital (VC) firms;
    • Companies that are operating off of early-stage seed funding from an angel; investor/VC or bootstrapping the business with their own personal funds;
    • Companies that are in the first five years of incorporation; and/or
    • Companies that are developing and marketing technology, in industries such as cyber-security, health IT, energy, biotechnology, mobile communications and social media (intrapreneurship).
