Online Undergraduate Classes

At this time there are no undergraduate degrees that can be achieved completely online. However, there are classes that are offered in an online format.  To find these classes, go to the timetable of classes and search under "Virtual Campus". 

Online Graduate Programs Overview

Engineering Online Learning degrees are offered through several programs that act as vehicles for earning degrees from Virginia Tech and affiliated universities. The courses are available in Blacksburg, Northern Virginia and Online. We currently offer three programs entirely online, the Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering, the Master’s of Information Technology, and Master of Science in Ocean Engineering. If you are interested in doctorate programs or are affiliated with the National Institute for Aerospace (NIA), please read about the offerings via NIA.

  • Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering

    Virginia Tech offers courses toward the Master of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering (AE). This program of study emphasizes design with a focus on aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and flight.

  • Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program

    The Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program (CGEP) is a online learning graduate program offering qualified individuals the opportunity to earn a master’s degree part time through on-site and videoconferencing classes. The CGEP is a consortium of five universities across Virginia. Consortium Universities include:

  • Masters of Information Technology

    The Master’s of Information Technology (MIT) program can be completed entirely through web-based courses for a master’s degree in information technology and include a graduate certificate in one of six different areas: Software Development, Networking, Business Information Systems, Information Security, Decision Support Systems and Telecommunications.

  • National Institute of Aerospace

    The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) at Langley Research Center is a world-class research and education institute created to do cutting edge aerospace and atmospheric research, develop new technologies for the nation and help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.   • Ocean Engineering (Naval Engineering) Online Master of Science

    Virginia Tech’s Aerospace and Ocean Engineering Department offers a Master of Science degree in Ocean Engineering (Naval Engineering) concentrating on naval ship design and related topics. Each courses is offered using the Internet only and employs both synchronous (two-way live communication between student and professor) and asynchronous (presentation-only material packaged into downloadable modules that can be viewed on demand) delivery techniques. Courses are taught by on-campus faculty as well as practicing professionals.
