What Will a Learning Community Offer?

The residential component of the program provides study partners and an easily accessible group of other first-year engineering students who share similar goals. Participants are block scheduled together in their first semester classes and enrolled in a fall semester seminar.

Seminar benefits include:

  • Academic success strategies
  • Professional development and networking skills
  • Service-learning opportunities
  • Engineering learning community and campus-wide events
  • Peer advising from upper division engineering students
  • Teambuilding
  • Diversity training
  • Assistance with student life issues

In the spring, participants are able to take part in a variety of activities and events that will help to enhance their experience at Virginia Tech.
